SANDACH category 3 and the transportation of products
Those food products of animal origin that are not used for human consumption due to commercial reasons, manufacturing or packaging defects.
The word SANDACH is synonymous with “Animal By-products Not Intended for Human Consumption”. It consists of a classification of waste that is divided into three categories, depending on their risk to human and animal health:
Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3. Depending on this classification, one regulation or another of Regulation (EC) No. 1069/2009 will apply.
- Category 1 materials: These are materials that have a higher health risk, such as TSE contamination, as they may contain prohibited substances or contaminants.
- Category 2 materials: Includes by-products that could have some risk, although they are not contaminated and do not contain prohibited substances.
- Category 3 materials: These are products suitable for human consumption, but are not intended for human consumption for commercial reasons.
The products that fall under the SANDACH regulation are subject to regulations and standards issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and are part of the Veterinary section. Even so, each autonomous community has its own way of managing these permits and all of them depend on the Ministry of Food and Environment.
SANDACH products are materials of animal origin that, for sanitary reasons or by decision of the operator, are not intended for human consumption.
To maintain food safety, a series of control measures must be maintained during their treatment, storage and disposal. Special attention must also be paid to their transport. It is important to trace the products from the moment of loading to their delivery to the destination center, either for disposal or for further processing.
As mentioned above, SANDACH products are classified into three categories according to their risk. In this case, Subitur Transports is a carrier registered in SANDACH Category 3.
What does this mean? It means that it is qualified to carry out both palletized and bulk transport of products and materials included in the SANDACH Category 3 register.
What materials are part of category 3?
They are those food products of animal origin, which are not used for human consumption (for commercial reasons, manufacturing or packaging defects, due to expiration and other defects that pose a health risk).
However, these products and by-products are used, depending on their origin, for the production of animal feed and food, such as: fertilizers, compounds, among other uses.
Subitur Transports remains committed to the transport and food industry. Therefore, it chooses to continue advancing, innovating and updating all the certificates and registrations that can benefit both the company and the sector.
